Energy Efficiency Projects

On this page, the Town will highlight energy efficiency projects that are in process or recently completed.

o    Municipal Energy Manager grant – in April 2025, the Town of Randolph in partnership with the Town of Milton received a three-year grant to create a new shared position called “Municipal Energy Manager”.  This position will help the towns develop and implement projects designed to reduce energy use in town and school buildings.  The total grant is worth $255,000!

o    During calendar year 2025, the Town replaced five rooftop HVAC units at Town Hall.  Each was old and at their end of life.  The units were replaced with new energy-efficient equipment that use heat exchange to reduce the amount of energy used and the associated cost.  In a unit with heat exchange, cool air leaving the building in the summer passes by hotter air coming in and transfers the cooler temps to the incoming air.  In the winter, the same happens, but in that case, the hot air leaving the building passes by the colder air coming in, and the heat is exchanged to reduce the amount of heating needed.

o    In November 2025, Randolph High School was enrolled in the Green School Works (GSW) Technical Assistance Services program through MassCEC, the State's clean energy agency.  Experts will closely examine the high school building to identify high-impact measures to reduce energy costs, stop the use of polluting fossil fuels in the building (called "decarbonization"), and review the potential for solar panels onsite. Following the study, the Town and School District will seek different funding options.

Stay tuned for new developments!
